The photo series DOLLS by Torsten Solin covers representations of attractive, lascivious made up young women in charming, attention-seeking posture - who carry an animal body around the neck, between the bosom or around the shoulder - like a feather-decoration. The boundless beauty of these creatures mates directly with the glamour of beauty; is the irresistible charisma real or artificial intensified?

Solin brings up a discussion about today's ideal of beauty, in particular the urge to illusionary optimization, the intervention into nature. At the same time the sober inevitability of life and futile reality of existence reveals itself - as the indispensable consequence in death and transitoriness. The Vanitas-idea - which was ever again burgeoning through the centuries - comes by Torsten Solin to its actualization –today's rather diametrically terms like vanity and nullity merge in his work to their original sense.
